Acne affects millions of people of all over the world. It knows no bounds and can be found on people of all ages, races, and social strata. Those affected inherit over production of sebum and inadequate sloughing of skin cells within the pore. These two factors cause the all too familiar blackheads or comedones to appear. If left untreated, the wall of the pore can rupture underneath causing both infection and inflammation. There is no real cure for acne, but it can be controlled by a comprehensive regimen which includes facials from a well trained esthetician who knows how to properly remove comedones. A personally tailored skin care program which takes into consideration the person’s age and other underlying factors such as premenstrual breakouts, lifestyle, stress, etc should strongly be considered. Products containing salicylic, alpha hydroxy acid or retinol will help with the removal of the skin cells both on the epidermis and within the pore, thus removing a major factor in comdone formation. Other products that contain oil controlling or absorbing ingredients such as Alchemiè Shine Free or Alchemiè Retinol Resurfacing Complex which helps to slow down oil production can take care of the other contributing factor of the comedone.
